There is a lot of information online about search engine optimization, and it can be quite daunting to try and understand it. Or, you can improve your search engine rankings by making some simple on page adjustments. One of the first things you should look at is the title of your web page at the top of your online browser.
The title bar is the colored bar at the top of the page. Go to your website home page and look at what the browser says. It is important to have your company or main keyword phrases in the title bar to increase search engine rankings.
You also need to see what your other internal pages show on the title bar. For each individual web page, the title bar must contain the specific keyword and phrases that each individual page is about. However, avoid very long strings of keywords, keeping them to six words or less. Avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other.
The next item to put under your microscope is your website content. Try to include your main keywords phrases in the content, such as keywords that potential customers would search for if they were to find your website. If you want more on this, be sure to take a look at Commission Blueprint at my blog.
Each page should consist of around 100 – 250 carefully chosen words, with your selected keywords and phrases. Having relevant text within the body of your website is crucial to achieving good search engine rankings. The search engines must be able to read the text in HTML format, and not graphics.
Take your cursor and highlight the text to see if it is in HTML format. The text is in graphic form if it does not highlight. In this case, ask your webmaster to change the text into HTML format in order to increase your search engine rankings.
Next we come to what is called meta tags. Meta tags don’t really have a great deal of effect on your search engine rankings. But, it is still worth adding them just in case the search engines take this into consideration.
To find out if your page is set up with meta tags, you must access the code, and to do this, click the “view” button on the browser menu bar, and select “source.” A new window will open. If there are meta tags, they usually appear near the top of the window. You should see meta name=”keywords” content=, if you have meta tags. Ask your webmaster to put in this code if you do not have it.
